"I've Got My Eyes on You" is a girl-watching tune accented with wolf whistles, male and female backing vocals, and dog barks. Known for ballads "When I'm Close to You" ranks among his best, Kendricks' weakened voice lacks power but possesses an abundance of charm. Kendricks updates "Born to Love You," a tune he first recorded with the Temptations. The newer rendition is as arresting, with the quintet, Splendor, replacing the Temptations. "Reason" has a funky reggae beat that pounds for more than four pleasurable minutes. He duets with an unidentified female on "The Very Thought of You," a sweeping ballad featuring Reather Bryant's crying, muted trumpet. "I'll Never Find Another Like You" is uptempo and pushed by a scratching guitar, thumping bass and vocals from Sheila Tyson, Sonia Rossman and Monica Green. Doc Samuels plays a plodding bass on "Long Conversation," which mixes R&B and reggae influences. A commercial failure, but the producers have no reason to hang their heads -- this is good Kendricks.
