Born in Belgium, André Cluytens is undoubtedly one of France's greatest musical personalities in the 20th century. He was the first Frenchman to perform at the Bayreuth Festival in 1955. Concert tours took him around the world. His repertoire was comprehensive. In addition to the works of Verdi and Wagner, Cluytens was considered a specialist in the music of French composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.
