We are very proud to present you the Rebel Sonix EP "Back It Up", a true Moombahton monster! Rebel Sonix was started in 2008 by ex DEF inc. (Botchit, Fingerlickin) member Larry Holcombe who has since been joined by Motion Graphics artist Phil Guest and fellow producer Al Swettenham. Big choppy squelchy basslines, latin style strings with old skool funk breaks thrown in for good measure. Riding on top of this is the dancehall flows of Lantan, an mc who cut his teeth competing at highly competitive freestyle events in Jamaica. He has gone on to work with artists such as Vybz Kartel, Wayne Marshall and Nitty Kutchie and has worked with producers including Stevie V and Keith Wint. He has toured globally with artists such as Sean Paul and Shinehead. Back it Up has received support from the Mad Decent camp amongst others. New Rebel Sonix member and talented solo artist Al aka Geek Boy is on the remix on this one taking the track into half time Moombah-step territory!! Second track ‘Bass Pon de Weekend’ features that man Lantan again alongside Rokhsan. Rokhsan is an extremely talented singer songwriter and Roots Manuva collaborator featuring on ‘Get the Get’ and also playing live with the Roots live show. ‘Bass Pon de Weekend’ was the first Rebel Sonix 110bpm outing and features twisted b-lines and an almost breaks influenced rhythm track again with a distinct Dancehall vibe running through it. The remix is a collaboration between Rebel Sonix and Geek Boy and goes in a definite Moombahcore direction with screeching synths and an epic Moombah- step breakdown. Already receiving airplay from Eddy Temple Morris on XFM. Special mention to Mike Dreams who was our competition winner and whose killer remix gets on the package as well as winning prizes from Yard Clothing and Groove 3!!
