Billy Stewart has been performing, teaching, and composing guitar music for over forty years [Lecturer of Guitar and Director of UNC Guitar Ensemble at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 1975]. The ten tracks of 'Whispers' are the result of explorations on the instrument, employing the influences of a life of study and listening expressed through the voice of a solo guitar [one track -J.A.C.- employs multiple guitars- all overdubbed by Stewart]. These influences include the music of Chick Corea, Ralph Towner, Bill Evans, Leo Brouwer, and Joaquin Rodrigo. Stewart has studied with such iconic classical guitarists as Jesus Silva and Pepe Romero, as well as Jazz performer/composer Ralph Towner and finger-picking stylist Tommy Emmanuel.
