Colección Estados Alterados: 5/25
Estados Alterados celebrates 25 years with 5/25 album collection Estados Alterados celebrates 25 years with a collection called 5/25 (Five studio albums in 25 years). This is the first-ever remastering of Estados Alterados’ complete works. Until this release, three of their five albums were impossible to find, except for the rare musicophiliac who happened to unearth a rare jewel at a used record shop. With new visuals and a magnificent new sound, this collection will reveal surprising elements in the rich tradition of Latin American rock. Don’t expect world music, as Estados Alterados is one of the few Latin American bands that never considered that folklore was necessary to express a cultural identity. Be ready for a sound that will engage your essence, not just your body. Estados Alterados might have an international sound, but they are fundamentally linked to the history of their country of origin, Colombia, and their city, Medellín. In 1989, the Colombian drug lords, such as Pablo Escobar, are at the peak of their power. In a country with few opportunities for a young generation, three middle-class kids find in music a way of expressing their reality, their dreams, their fears. These kids were Ricardo Restrepo a.k.a Ricky (Drums, programming), Fernando Sierra a.k.a Elvis (Vocals, programming) and Gabriel Lopera a.k.a Tato (who left the band in 2011). Their band’s name is Estados Alterados (Altered States in English), named after Ken Russell’s movie. In the US and Europe, Synth Pop had an eighties vibe, but for Colombia it was a whole new thing and the band quickly gained fame and prestige. They were the first Colombian band to play a video in MTV (El Velo 1991). They were the first Latin American electronic band to tour in United States and the first Latin American band to have a website. In 1989, EA released their first 45 RPM vinyl with two songs "Muévete" and "El Velo". In 1990, after the tragic death of Mana, the original drummer to play with the band, they held their first concert. In 1991, they released their first album "Estados Alterados" which was recognized as the first true Latin American electronic album. In 1993, their second album, "Cuarto Acto", lead them to consider music as a profession. Life in Medellín, then considered one of the most violent cities in the western hemisphere, continued influencing their sound. "Rojo sobre Rojo", appearing in 1995, was influenced by multiple musicians and producers, which enabled the band to experiment with afro-sound instruments. Prior to what today is defined as "Wold Music", EA was a pioneer in integrating different elements their electronic sound. In 1997 EA is invited by a new label to record their next album, to be produced by Tweety Gonzalez, a close collaborator of the Argentine band Soda Stereo—one of the most influential rock band of all times in the Spanish speaking world, but the album never got released. In 1999 EA was invited to record a song (A Forest/El Bosque) for the only The Cure tribute album ever made in Spanish. At that point, the band members take a break to reassess their personal lives and professions. EA’s members explored other projects and sounds until 2005, when they were invited to "Rock al Parque" one of the most important festivals in Latin America. As soon as they were on stage in front of 70,000 people, they began to conceive the next album. In 2010, EA released "Romances Científicos". With this material they seduced their longtime fans anew, and built a brand new audience. Coldplay invited them to play with them in Bogotá, Colombia. When Tato left the band in 2011, Ricky and Elvis kept the flame alive with friend and invited musician Juan Gallego. Between 2011 and 2013, they toured the U.S. East Coast, playing in Miami, Atlanta, Washington, New York and Chicago. They also played in a variety of international festivals and theaters: Vive Latino (Mexico, D.F.), Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo (Bogotá); South by Southwest (Austin, Texas), Latin Alternative Music Conference (New York, NY), Rola Fest (Miami, Florida), Rock al Parque (Bogotá, Colombia), Altavoz (Medellín, Colombia) among others. 2014 found them releasing a new album, "Intruso Armónico", recorded in Los Angeles, California with the experience and knowledge of all these years of work and friendship. The first single, “Guayaquil”, was launched with a beautiful and uncanny video. The album’s release was in the mythic Pablo Tobón Uribe theater in Medellín where three generations of followers confirmed why Estados Alterados is a Colombian institution of sound. In 2015 EA launched a short-music film called “Inventándome”, a true work of art by American-Argentinean director Pascui Rivas. Among the set's many highlights are fan favorites such as "Muévete", "El Velo", "Opulencia" from Estados Alterado's 1990 debut album Estados Alterados; "Nada", "Infecto", "Seres de La Noche" from the 1993 album, Cuarto Acto; "Paraíso", " La Fiebre de Marzo", "Te Vere" from 1995's Rojo Sobre Rojo; "Contenme", " Mil Demonios" from 2010's Romances Científicos and "Guayaquil", "Por Ti" and "Inventándome" from their most recent album, 2014's Intruso Armónico.
