iTunes Review Signing finds this excellent quartet reuniting for the first time since 2006's Live in Seattle. Despite the break, the group's members—vibraphonist Joe Locke, pianist Geoffrey Keezer, bassist Mike Pope, and drummer Terreon Gulley—are clearly tuned into one another. The Locke-penned title track bristles with energy as vibes and piano spin out lines over the highly inventive rhythm section; the track comes off like latter-day fusion, with all of that genre’s excesses stripped away. Signing includes covers of two very different pieces: John Coltrane’s “Naima” and British pop singer Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek.” The version of the Coltrane classic draws from an arrangement that Locke put together for the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, and the quartet does a nice job with it. The original of the Heap tune was performed a cappella, and this spare take keeps the spotlight on the melody. “Terraces,” composed by Keezer, features an extended solo by Pope and a mellow statement by Locke, while the R&B/pop-inflected “This Is Just to Say” brings the album to an easygoing close. .
