Better known for his releases under the Mull Historical Society moniker where he achieved 4 UK Top 40 Chart hits and 2 Top 20 UK Chart albums, acclaimed singer-songwriter Colin MacIntyre releases his new album entitled 'Island' on July 6th on his own label, Future Gods Recordings. The album will have a wide release and comes hot on the heels of the 'pop perfection' of 'The Water' and will be preceded by the driving first single (digital only ) 'Cape Wrath', on June 22nd. His most stripped-back album to date, MacIntyre crafted 'Island' in America, sitting plucking a toy guitar on log piles and in basements next to the roaring Atlantic, and recorded it back home on the other side, at An Tobar (The Well), the Tobermory Arts Centre on the Isle of Mull. He created a community feel that included contributions from King Creosote, the Mendelssohn On Mull Festival string players, local musicians, including members of his own family, the first ever recording from his uncle, who first inspired MacIntyre to play, and Gordon Maclean, who runs the centre, whom MacIntyre claims 'is an angel with side burns.' 'Island', which is self-produced, is the stunning sound of a songwriter at the height of his story-telling powers, grand in scope but intimate in delivery. It features only acoustic instrumentation, the first time for him to do so, and is his most personal collection yet, at times soul, pop, folk & rock.The beautifully illustrated artwork on the 'Island' album is by 'The Water' designer Jo Burton. It includes a unique short story written by Colin, which is part of a collection of inter-related tales by him based on each of the album's song titles. This collection will be called 'Stories From An Island', for publication later in 09.They say no man is an island, but MacIntyre has gone back to his, to stunning effect.
