Co-leader Randy Bachman seemed to have settled into an elder statesman role, producing and guesting on sessions for young up-and-coming Canadian bands. Any Road - backed by a pair of young pups on bass and guitar - marks his first solo venture in many a year. As a vocalist, Bachman makes one yearn for the return of Fred Turner. Let's be kind and call it a limited instrument, but one used to its peak potential on the nostalgic "Prairie Town," offered here in acoustic and electric versions. The acoustic take makes best use of guests Margo Timmins (Cowboy Junkies) and Neil Young, and is Any Road's one essential moment.
