I met Dave Desmelik at an open mic in Flagstaff, AZ in 1994. There was an immediate musical kinship, and we began performing as a duo at the bars around town. We recorded a demo tape on a four-track, gave it to friends and family and used it for booking. Dave and I were just learning to write, sing and perform. We leaned on each other for advice and support. We grew up together in music. We added other members and started other projects, and eventually morphed into Onus B. Johnson (OBJ). OBJ was a super-fun newgrass/jam band. We achieved some success as a finalist at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival band competition, touring around the mountain west, California, the Southeast and New England. The friendship between Dave and I grew deep. Eventually, life happened and Onus B. Johnson faded (though we still reunite from time-to-time), and we found ourselves on different sides of the country.  At our roots, Dave and I are singer-songwriters.  We have both released something like a recording per year since the early 2000’s.  We’ve been discussing a duo record for several years, but it was logistically challenging.  We could have traded computer tracks, but we wanted the experience of being in a room together, creating.  We’ve always striven for authenticity.   Finally, you are holding the Dave and Nolan duo record.  This is not the songwriting culmination of twenty years; rather, this is a recent batch of songs we recorded with 23 years of music, friendship, experience and support behind them.  Thank you for supporting independent music, we hope you enjoy.
