Apple Pie mixes the qualities of 2 of the most important American Progressive rock bands on an album aptly titled "Crossroad" (2007). As if the gamble wasn't big enough, this group comes from... Russia !!! Vartan Mikhitarian seems to be almost as gifted as the multi-talented Neal Morse: a very good voice (Excellent English accent indeed!), incredible skills with almost all instruments (guitars especially) that happen to be in his hands, a great stylistic range and an imaginative way of composition. And his colleagues are quite in the same level. Here is an incredible debut album, polished with a sound and production that a good American band would be proud of. And if some people think this is a mere clone, they just have to skip the first tracks, the more under the influence, to discover the real personality of the slavic trio. Apple Pie are good playing funk-soul music with reeds than performing sophisticated pop songs, progressive rock of heavy-metal.
