UNDER THE MOON
Singer/rapper mezz and rapper ONJUICY have released their collaborative track "UNDER THE MOON." The two shared the experience of an Asia tour in 2024, beginning with their appearance at Suara Festival in Bali, Indonesia, and this track carries the atmosphere of those travel memories. The production is handled by dubby bunny - the producer behind many of mezz's defining tracks since her debut, who has also contributed beats to RAPSTAR (ABEMA's massively popular rap audition series) and Red Bull RASEN (Red Bull's widely followed Japanese hip-hop cypher project), and produced for rappers including LANA and Benjazzy. Built around the mellow chord work of Liquid Funk - rooted in the UK drum and bass lineage - the track unfolds with a floating, nocturnal city sound. Weaving in phrases like "Link up by the pool side in Bali" that evoke memories of the tour, mezz delivers an emotional portrait of a night scene abroad, bathed in moonlight. ONJUICY, meanwhile, layers rapid-fire grime-influenced rhymes with humorous lines like "mosh pit under the moon" and a playful nod to Sailor Moon - the beloved anime iconic for its lunar themes - by dropping "getting that Tsukino Usagi," the real name of its main character. Alongside these witty lines, the lyric "are we really okay just staying like this?" captures a flash of anxiety and restlessness that surfaces amid the excitement. The city at night, memories of the tour, and time shared under the moonlight - "UNDER THE MOON" is a track where mezz and ONJUICY have sealed the landscapes and emotions they encountered along the way into a quiet, understated groove.
