Malibongwe Fololo is a gifted alto saxophonist and a superlative African Traditional jazz and gospel saxophonist. He hails from a musical but not popular family, typical of all Black South African Families whose music is not recorded in the country archives. Started singing in his hometown Queenstown at the age of seven in the church and school choirs as a soprano soloist later became a tenor soloist and eventually a baritone soloist with Siyakhula Choral Choir in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape. The love for African Traditional jazz music comes from the fact that Queenstown is a hub for acclaimed renowned musicians; to mention a few like the Matshikiza, Mcingana, Mavi Stompi, Malotana, Sixaba, Phono, and others as well as the upcoming Fololo. Malibongwe Fololo started playing church organ in the early 80s in the church and weddings and later changed to alto saxophone in 1994. This change was because of the music subject which he taught at Mzimkhulu Senior Primary School at Mdantsane. As a teacher Malibongwe pursued a career in music with University of South Africa doing BA with specialization in music. Self taught alto saxophone and collaborated with the likes of Lulama Gawulana an international acclaimed guitarist, performing at live gigs and weddings in Mdanstane. Towards the end of 2004 started his very own solo work with the project called Nguwo Ngumtshato (wedding). The project is a mixture traditional and gospel music arranged in South African Traditional Jazz to suit the South African audience as well as international audience. The aim of the music/project is to revive the African Heritage particularly the South African one that is somehow lost. For this project Malibongwe Fololo has recorded 6 songs. In 2005 August and September Malibongwe has recorded his second album called Another Side. This is another product of VIBRATIONS RECORDING STUDIO, in union with Roy Bermiester as the Executive Producer and Co Produced by MOHAMED FALL. In this album he has collaborated with the likes of Sticks Mrwebi, Godfrey Ntsila, Yeye Smouse, Township Guitars and Badi Wells. This album is the continuation of reviving African Heritage. The performance is enjoyable for all occasions especially that it has African Identity and unique in its presentation.
