Aretha Franklin's roots in Gospel ran extremely deep. With her sisters Emma and Carolyn she sang at her father's church while growing up in the 1950s. It is during this period that the Gospel recordings featured here were made. They provide a priviledged insight into the roots of one of the giants of Soul music.
