Something More

TROIKA embodies the raw energy of Detroit Rock, the virtuosity and playfulness of Classic Jazz, and tonal complexities of an orchestral string section. Rocker Justine Blazer, violinist Lucy Davis Hull, and a pianist Jake Fisher unite in joint pursuit of a sound that synthesizes their diverse backgrounds to fill what they see as a gap in the pop music canon. Three successful individual careers have collided from vastly different backgrounds to become “three in unison,” hence: “TROIKA.” For the past five years, Justine Blazer has delighted country music audiences with her unique sound of Detroit soul and modern pop. Justine’s career launched when she won the National Ram Trucks Battle of the Bands competition. Her resulting tour played 250 dates a year coast to coast opening for Jason Aldean, Justin Moore, Lee Brice, Lonestar, and more. Releasing six albums over the course of her career, Justine’s accolades include: top 100 on the Music Row charts, #1 on the Play MPE List, iHeart radio new artist rotation, top 10 on European Charts, airplay on GAC, ZUUS, TNN and more. Also selected to be on the show “American Supergroup” in 2016, Justine has no shortage of practice being onstage and on camera. Lucy Davis Hull, hometown Princeton, NJ, began playing classical viola at age 6, submitting herself to the rigorous discipline, perseverance, and passion of orchestral and chamber music repertoires. As a protégé of Gerry Rice, acclaimed violist (Philadelphia Orchestra), Lucy since age 13 kept a grueling 4 hour daily practice regimen. During high school, Lucy toured South America with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and toured Europe with the Princeton Orchestra (featured solo artist). A Music Performance Major at Wheaton College Conservatory, Lucy continued to win concerto competitions on and off campus. At events such as the invitation-only Aspen Music festival she shared the stage with classical music royalty Sarah Chang and Joshua Bell. There, Lucy studied with a range of mentors from The Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, and Cincinnati Conservatory. Post graduation, a re-assessment of her musical aspirations led Lucy to reject several scholarship offers for graduate conservatory work. She entered the business world, but in parallel, began a period of musical experimentation in a pursuit of her musical vision that took her from New York, to Virginia Beach, and finally Nashville and TROIKA. Jake Fisher is the country twang to TROIKA’s northeastern, powerhouse females. Hailing from Lake Toxaway, NC, Jake taught himself piano at age 7. His mother tells of Jake piecing together by ear Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” after seeing “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” His enthusiasm led to jazz piano lessons and music studies at Western Carolina University, studying with (who is he…) Paul Wlosok. Throughout college, Jake played with Lil’ Anthony in the Asheville Symphony and recorded with acclaimed jazz artists such as Paul Bollenbeck, Donnie McCaslin, and Joel Fram. Jake scored several motion pictures featured at international film festivals, such as “Emeralds of the East.” After graduation, Jake’s college band “The Dixie Devils,” moved to Nashville and recorded their first album at Reba McIntire’s studio, “Starstruck.” Since then Jake has become a force in the Nashville songwriting world, performing at famous local venues such as “The Listening Room” and more. Three became one in 2017 when Justine, Lucy, and Jake met through playing local gigs and writers rounds together. All three had the desire to combine their talents to create something new in Nashville and beyond. TROIKA emanates elements of country, pop, and EDM with nostalgic lyrics and Forward beats. With a focus on three part harmonies, the violin and piano are also featured prominently as solo voices, showcasing the virtuosity and technical skill of their players. “We’re sort of like The Dixie Chicks meets Ed Sheeran meets Lindsey Stirling,” laughs Justine. “But what really makes us unique is that we approach our music as creative equals. We all sing lead, we all harmonize, we all play. We aren’t individuals, we’re one sound. We want people to hear us on the radio and say, “Oh, that’s TROIKA.”
