Whether it’s high-pitched guitar feedback, driving beats or haunting melodies, George Kent explodes with a musical style of raw attitude mixed with garage-rock genius. According to Tom Willett, former VP of marketing at Word/Epic/Sony, “Kent writes with a keen eye, plays with great taste, and consistently makes his audience feel like they’ve been let in on one of the music world’s best kept secrets.” Kent has a strong music background but, ironically, it wasn’t the desire to learn rock songs that initially brought Kent to play the guitar. “I dove into jazz with Jay Roberts, son of Howard Roberts [founder of the Musician’s Institute, Hollywood].” Other influences include performing hometown gigs to playing in cover bands while serving a tour of duty in Hawaii. Regretfully, rock music was hard to come by while in the islands, or at least in the beginning stages. “When I first got there [Hawaii], it was strange.” Kent says. “I was stationed in Honolulu…they had no rock music station. It was hard to believe. But about two or three years into it, we finally got a station there…we got our fix of rock music”. Some of Kent’s musical influences include Nirvana and Death Cab for Cutie. “I love classic rock--Led Zeppelin for sure,” Kent explains. “I’m a fan of Weezer, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters…” If any particular preferences surround his guitar playing, he typically chooses one essential element. “As a guitarist, you’re always looking for a particular tone. I love vintage Fender amps.” Ultimately, George Kent’s head-bobbing grooves, raging hot guitars and infectious live sets will continue to draw audiences to his art of maturity, passion and traditional rock n’ roll.
