Singer-songwriter and composer Matteis began his musical journey at the age of 5 when he first heard Sade, “Your Love is King”. This notable listening experience triggered and awoke his soul deep within and at this exact moment he felt the true power of music. At age 18, Matteis felt a true defining moment when, “Sharing your creativity with people can really be something rewarding and that’s when I decided to pursue music.” “Singing in A Broken Key”, is a long time coming e.p., released spring 2015. This e.p. evokes curiosity and exploration of unforeseen fading love, both a personal and impersonal reflection of life, exploring heartbreak, joy and overall pain one can feel. “Its having something real and losing and trying to come to terms with it, but at the same time appreciating all aspects of the experience.” His professional journey began in 2010; establishing a record label, signing a musician and engrossing himself in the recording studio. Shortly thereafter, Matteis quickly discovered, his unique folk and soulful writing style, conflicted with the urban music he was producing. “I'm about creating timeless passionate authentic music. As a label, the primary focus is to showcase original artists in an organic way, to build a label where it never compromises itself, but always pushes itself to be innovative and creative, and to give fans a unique musical experience.” Matteis has a fresh style by approaching music, first from a producer’s perspective and then following through as an artist, “I can see a song potential early, and that ability helps me connect with an audience.” After representing his first client, he soon realized no other musician can truly bring lyrics to life in a heartfelt and soothing manner and was forced to shift gears. Although Matteis is a musician, he was not comfortable singing in public yet after contemplating for quite some time, he had an epiphany: only he can bring forth the authentic soulful feeling, beauty and grace. During the course of his early career, Matteis has performed at several Poetry Jams such as: Hat City Kitchen, The Anger Coffee Bean, The Fine Grind Coffee House, 10th Street Live and The Blend Coffee Shop. He talks about a song he wrote and produced in May of 2013 entitled, “Can’t Leave You Behind”, spontaneously stroking the guitar when lyrics and melody flowed through him organically. “I wanted to have a soulful melancholy feel to it. The song is about wanting to gain closure but its just seems impossible.” Matteis plans to continue growing, creating and releasing music for others to connect with and enjoy. He is seeking opportunities to connect with a distribution company and continue playing in front of live audiences.
