Primal Scream
This live recording takes place in Chicago "Little Village" community. Cojunto had performed for many years at a small club called The Jacaranda. Part of the traddition that Conjunto developed was to end a set with a Free Improvisation. This one is entitled "Primal Scream" because one of the regulars unlieashed quite a yell you will hear shortly after the cut begins. This features Willy Garcia on Saxophone and James Sanders on Violin. The other members of the band include. Donald Neale on Piano, Roel Trevino, Jean Leroy and Joe Rendon on Percussion and Jose Porcayo on Bass. Sanders formed Conjúnto in 2001 as an ongoing exploration of the confluence of Jazz and Afro-Latin standards with original compositions and arrangements. The intuitive interplay of the musicians in this long running ensemble ensures a free approach to the music and makes every performance unique. Moving confidently from Afro-roots to intricate improvisation, Conjúnto engages mind and body with their polyrhythmic intricacy, thoughtful arrangements, and virtuoso soloing.
