Monkeyhead
Last year when I first started touring with Booker T, I was lucky enough to play with and befriend a great guitarist named Marc Ford. For those not familiar with Marc, he has contributed to some of the best Rock and Roll in the past 20 years with artists like The Black Crowes, Ben Harper, The Blind Boys of Alabama and more recently Ryan Bingham. Not only can Marc play guitar but his passion for music has led him to become one of today's most sought after producers. Knowing this I contacted him and asked if he would be interested in producing a couple songs for the Trainwreck. Bow had just written a new song "Monkeyhead" that felt like a departure from his songwriting zone but that also felt like a challenge that we were more than willing to take. It turned out that I had a show with Booker in California before leaving on tour for a spell so we did our best to coordinate a couple of shows in LA and a session at The Compound Studio in Long Beach. A few plane tickets later we found ourselves living that easy California lifestyle (thanks to our West Coast Ambassador Scott Florance), playing shows and recording with Marc and engineer Anthony Arvizu. The session was a great experience! Marc is a very passionate person when it comes to laying down tunes. He is able to get inside the song and the band as if he had been in the band the whole time. He and Anthony have a great relationship that creates a studio experience that is efficient and open to creativity and experimentation. "Monkeyhead" was broken down, built back up, trimmed and pressed in a couple of hours. Needless to say it was a great time and we have forged a new friendship with the fellas in Long Beach. Have a listen and enjoy.
