You Can't Save Everybody
"Oh -- my -- god! Fabulous." — Marilyn Rea Beyer, WUMB "Reminiscent of vintage Kevin Welch and old O'Kanes material with new musical, philosophical and political twists. Great lyrics and fabulous duets." — Laura Hopper, KPIG "I am so impressed by the sound of this record. It's just an artistic breath of fresh air." — Mike Lyons, Triple A Radio.com "This is a fabulous record! I especially love "Workin' for the Man." Man, what a lyric!" — Rik James, KGLT "They have a real honest, lived-in sound that carries the music, body and soul, past artificial boundaries of technology right to your brain-pan." — Bob Allen WIAA "True and glorious traditionalism with not a bad track in sight." — Bruce Elder, Sydney Morning Herald "With 12 tracks including instrumental "Cecil's Lament" and Welch's gloriously melodic "Too Old To Die Young," Can't Save is a treat." — Larry Schwartz, The Age "The Kane-Sean Locke penned soft gospel title track sets the mood for this disc - arguably their finest hour.... Don't mistake this for alt country - it's real roots country delivered in its purest form." — David Dawson, Beat magazine "Lyrical, sensuous, intriguing, the music washes over the listener, encasing them in sensation...it's impossible not to be drawn into the beauty of these songs." — Kathy Coleman, Take Country Back To say that Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch and Fats Kaplin are a band might seem like a simple, straightforward statement. Far from it. It's nearly written into the collective consciousness that individually successful artists group themselves into bands loosely, with an air of impermanence. Needless to say, these three—accomplished in their own rights as artists, songwriters and musicians, wholeheartedly casting their fortunes together since 2003—don't fit the profile. Then there's the fact that Kieran, Kevin and Fats fool freely with the organic properties of band-dom. Where simple musical math dictates that adding a band member will increase how loud and busy you sound, they add a fourth (Kieran's son Lucas) and simplify. Add to that refreshingly unorthodox, unscripted instrumentation (i.e. no bass or piano and Fat's tendency to play whatever's lying around) and two distinct songwriting flavors (Kieran's and Kevin's) united by a fluid, rhythmic pulse that give way to an intoxicating oil-and-vinegar-like effect.
