Wish
The music agent for R.E.M., Widespread Panic and Phish called Michael Borack's songwriting 'surprisingly good.' On The Source's second album, Wish, Borack delves into topics including abuse, loss, birth and renewal, with songs that range from haunting and beautiful ballads to angst-filled, post-punk rockers. Michael Borack (singer/songwriter) is influenced by The Who, Pink Floyd, The Waterboys, The Rolling Stones, The Clash, R.E.M. and Live and those influences can be heard throughout. The 15 songs on Wish are immediately catchy and singable, with poetic and thought-provoking lyrics, without ever sounding cliche. These are songs that are well arranged and impressively produced with a line-up of musicians that enhance but never detract from the simplistic genius of the lyrics and melody. The cover for Wish is a picture of a doll that Borack took when he found it while exploring an abandoned asylum in his youth. The complex expression of this handmade doll conveys the pain, hurt, longing and desire that are lyrical themes on Wish. This is an album that stays with you. You'll want to listen to it over and over again. And that's a good thing.
