Truth Rock, Vol. 1
J Aaron Brown, Nashville legend, Grammy Award-Winning producer, and former President of Word Music wrote: Hey Michael, From time to time when a friend asks me to review their new album, I am a little reluctant to say the least. Just listened to your album two times thru. I am surprised and impressed. Gotta hand it to you Michael, Knowing that you most likely played all the instruments on the tracks, I was expecting the tracks to come up a little short, not so. You have done a really fine job with the tracks as well as the arrangements. The writing is fresh and compelling most especially "United Through It All". Likely the darkest day in our history was re-visited with sensitivity and good taste. Thank you Michael for a really good product and keep up the good work. Mike began writing original songs in 1991 and recording his arrangements in his home studio, conceiving and playing all instrumental parts and vocals. His predominant genre has been faith/inspirational, but has also written a number of story ballads, and even some country-rock numbers poking fun at the human condition. On September 12, 2001, Mike teamed with a friend, Randy Bayne, and composed a ballad titled “United Through It All”, a song of hope and resolve for America in the wake of the terrorist attack. The original recording produced by Mike charted in the top 10 on Country/Christian radio charts and was reported to be a favorite on International Armed Services Radio. In addition to Mike on guitar, the recording involved the late Anthony Burger, pianist for the Gaither Vocal Band, Greg Ritchie and Bryan Carter, drummer and guitarist for The Easters gospel group, Steve Mauldin, Dove winning arranger and regular bass player at the Opry, and Ken Turner, legendary bass vocalist from The Blackwood Brothers fame and his latest male quartet, New Millennium. The lyric was entered into the Congressional Record in the Library of Congress on November 15, 2001. Soon after that, Mike co-wrote “They Dared To Dream”, a ballad about the Greatest Generation which was published by Hal Leonard Publishing Company and was performed by school and church choirs around the country as a Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Martin Luther King Day piece. He also composed or co-wrote music by request for specific projects including “Save The Light” for the non-profit organization raising money and awareness to restore the historic Morris Island Lighthouse off Folly Beach, South Carolina, a dance number titled “A Dime And A Dollar In Tennessee” for a Broadway musical, and jingles for product advertising. With over 50 compositions, Mike is always writing, arranging, and recording new songs to share with friends and family.
