Steve Ward (aka...me) is a drummer and project studio owner from a little town in Southern Ontario Canada, known as Cobourg. Having spent many years performing in several different bands, most notably EXIT and MIND over MATTER (find our music on CD Baby and iTunes), the realities of age eventually set in and it was time to find other ways to stay involved in music and actually be at home once in a while. Thus AlterEgo Studio was born in the late 1980's. Due to an unending desire to improve my recording abilities I am always experimenting with various effects and recording techniques in order to find new sounds and better methods for the sake of our studio's clients. Recently my focus has been on drums and other percussion instruments, the sounds they make, and how best to get the most out of them and/or bastardize them (just cause I can!) Much experimentation has been done and with the aid of many, perhaps too many (no-no wait... you can never have too many), effects and other technologies I present to you this recording as the culmination of all this messing about. It's all me doing many crazy things, then adding effects that have no business being used on percussion, and finally mixing them all into what you hear on this EP. There's no-one else to blame so I hope you like it! Instrumentation you will hear consists of a 1982 vintage Pearl Export drum kit, Remo Roto Toms, an un-dampend & very old Stewart (wooden) bass drum played with mallets and my fist, various Zyldjian and one very old Ufip cymbals, African rain stick, Amazon nut stick, woodblocks, cowbell, maraquas, wooden wind chimes, and even a Korg drum machine playing the part of "the machine" in Man and Machine. Effects included various delays and very dark reverbs, chorus, ring modulation, vocoder, flanger, tremolo, phase shifting, pitch shifting and complete track reversal. (Just to mention a few!) In short - it's strange, unusual, unconventional, and just plain weird. Hell...it's messed up!
