Cyril Pahinui, the son of musical legend, Gabby Pahinui, is, in his own right, one of Hawai‘i’s most gifted guitarists and singers. Cyril has twice played at Carnegie Hall, has contributed to three Grammy Award-winning albums, received several Hoku Hanohano Awards, and recorded on more than 35 Hawaiian musical releases. As a slack key guitarist, Cyril’s technical virtuosity, rhythmic adaptations, and instrumental harmonics impart the soul of Hawaiian music, and his beautiful, emotive, and well-recognized voice renders an intimate picture of his Pacific island home. WHO LOVES YOU? was composed by Linda H Dixon MD at her Honolulu home during a jam session with Cyril and Charmagne Pahinui and Eugene Ferris MD in 1990. It was a song of unconditional love that lay dormant inside her guitar case with her Martin guitar for over 20 years. On Cyril's 60th birthday, Lyndy was impressed to give Cyril her precious guitar because she never learned how to play the beautiful instrument. Cyril asked Lyndy if she remembered her song. Surprised and shocked, she said "Of course I do, do you?" He said simply, "Lyndy, I never forget a song." The words were from Lyndy's expression of unconditional love she spoke often to her children and husband. She knew that when things went well, they wouldn't value them. But when life hurt them, they would treasure her love. A mother's love. WHO LOVES YOU has taken almost 3 years to be finally released, with the help of Auntie Diana Aki, a Native Speaking Hawaiian singer joining Cyril in a duet. Along with Larry Kimura, she translated the song into Hawaiian. Charles Brotman, himself a Grammy award winner, recorded the song at his Waimea studio on the Big Island (Palm Records).
