The Golden Lehua Tree
One of Hawai'i's most beloved musical families, the Beamers trace their royal lineage back to 15th century descendents of King Kamehameha and Queen Ahiakumai. Matriarch "Aunty Nona" is a a kumu hula, educator, entertainer and cultural authority who coined the phrase "Hawaiiana" and is responsible for the inclusion of Hawaiian language in school curriculum. Her aloha and teaching stories have touched thousands of children and adults in her 40 year teaching career. Her son, Keola Beamer, is one of Hawaii's premier singer/songwriters, composers, arrangers and slack key masters. For over thirty years, his artistry has breathed new life into ki ho'alu, slack key guitar, while remaining true to its Hawaiian roots. His classic album, Honolulu City Lights, remains one of the all-time best selling records in Hawaiian music history. He has received several Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (Hawaiian Grammy) as well as other awards for his theaterical productions and other creative colloborations. His first book, Ka Oli'li - The Shimmering, was third on Hawaii's best seller list. The Beamers continue to perform on the Islands and internationally sharing their talents and aloha.
