The songs on the new EP Nate the Great speak to a mature kind of world-weary love. Nate's voice is clear and strong at times, delivering emotionally powerful lyrics. At other times it dips down into the painful, growling depths of the blues. His saxophone sound, deep and soulful leaves a smoking trail of charred ruin when he shreds solos. The title cut is a driving electric blues in 12-8. Its title and lyrics pay homage to classic self-aggrandizing blues masterpieces like Hoochie Coochie Man, Mannish Boy and Bad to the Bone. Adding to Nate's originals are covers of Otis Redding's Down in the Valley and Sam Cooke's Bring It On Home To Me. We owe everything to the great masters of our music that have come before us.
