His music mood is varied from downright depressing to endlessly happy. Not over produced, James and producer Sklyer Norwood (Blind Pilot, Rare Monk, Pt Juncture WA. etc) create a edgy raw take on modern excess, class warfare, politics, death and love. Taking his musical influences from the Beatles, Elliott Smith, & Bright Eyes--the songs tend to be downbeat but also catchy and lyrically poignant.
