BIO-Rick James Singer song writer Rick James was singing and writing country music long before it became cool, and carrying a reel to reel tape recorder to all the music publishers at 1650 Broadway. In Rick’s junior year in high school he began teaching himself to play guitar on his front porch in Bethpage, Long Island, New York with friend Tommy. The two sat for hour upon hour honing skills that would carry Rick into decades of playing music. Recording his first Rock n Roll single at 17, and by age 20 Rick had moved squarely into the ranks of country music behind artists like Conway Twitty, Marty Robbins, and Glen Campbell. As a song writer Rick penned both sides of his Rock n Roll release; It’s Time to Cry and My Angel as well as his first country single; California Woman. He co-authored songs with award winning song writer Charlie Singleton, A Ballad to Jenny and I’ve Got Loving on My Mind at Screen Gems Columbia. Rick has also penned releases for country singers Barbra Ray, More Than My Share and The Storm Has Passed, as well as both sides of Jack Hunt’s single Lisa Has Gone Away and Walk with Me. Rick’s second Album: Still Gentle On My Mind features the sequel to the Glen Campbell classic ‘Gentle on My Mind’ and several new songs. And now Cold Canyon Road high-lites phases from Rick’s life. Rick has played numerous country venues from New York to Alaska as well as winning many talent shows along the way. He has shared country stages with artists like Connie Smith, Roy Drusky, George Morgan, Tex Ritter, Barbra Ray, and Lenny Nast. With the release of his third album Cold Canyon Road Rick brings forth new biographical and narrative story songs some of which were co-authored with his son contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Ian Kristopher.
