Jass in Six Pieces

Eddie Shaw was bass player for The Monks on Polydor Records, in 1966, but before that he worked as a young trumpet player in Nevada. The Monks song, "I Hate You but Call Me" is on the soundtrack of "Big Lebowski" - the group also featured in a German film documentary titled, "Transatlantic Feedback". Over the years the Monks have been written about in many magazines and newspapers, as well as featured in TV and radio interviews as "The Godfathers of Punk" ) according to Rolling Stone Magazine. After the Monks, Eddie returned to the USA and played trumpet in the Minneapolis group, "Minnesoda" on Capitol records, produced by Bob Johnston in Nashville. After this, he was author (aka Thomas Edward Shaw) of three published books ("Cowboy Like Me", "Black Monk Time", and "Beltrami's River") published by Carsonstreet Publishing. Now after more than thirty years, Eddie wrote and performed these songs, in an effort to show his earlier jazz roots. It is also because of a dare, by the Polydor producer of The Monks. Eddie's trumpet style if reminiscent of Miles Miles Davis, but played with a more irreverent tone.
