My Own Sky is mainly a band of one. Started by Tim Serdynski as a side project apart from his band, The Colorside, he has shared the stage with the likes of Denison Marrs, My Hotel Year, Jeremiah's Grotto, Copeland, Kevin Kelso, the late Pilots Vs. Aeroplanes, as well as his Colorside. I guess you could say he’s off to a good start, especially with his debut indie release Where I find… The EP starts off well with “For A While.” With picking acoustic guitar and amazing vocal abilities, this would definitely be a jaw dropper live as layered vocals and great songwriting talent give this a passionate feel. “Ruthless” almost brings to mind the Jars of Clay of old with some post-grunge, whereas “You Never Have A Reason Why” brings on the rock. This is a good change from the rest of the album that formerly specializes in acoustic. “Push” is very Dashboard Confessional-seasoned but adds a pinch of xylophone while “Love Comes Again” gives a nice acoustic ballad with more of that apparent Jars feel. An untitled track ends with the presence of techno. Let’s throw out the production for a second; everybody doesn’t have the budget of Whitney Houston, folks. That being said, this is a very impressive non-studio produced EP. Not running too far from the likes of Dashboard, while vocally his range is hauntingly paralleled to Dan Haseltine, this is something to check out. I see amazing things in My Own Sky’s future and wouldn’t mind seeing his name in lights.
