Tea Time
Jazz guitarist Michael Valeanu was born in Paris, France in 1985. While in Paris I studied with great musicians/instructors such as Eric Daniel, Yves Brouqui, Laurent Coq, Guillaume Naturel, Stéphane Kochoyan who have been a great inspiration for him . After graduating from EDIM/Conservatoire National de Bourg-la-Reine with a diploma in Jazz studies, he moved in 2008 to New York to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music where I studied with Lage Lund, Jonathan Kreisberg, Ari Hoenig, Charlie Persip, Charles Tolliver, and Robert Sadin. In 2010, he was selected to participate in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. For his debut album "Tea Time", Michael wanted the music to represent as honestly as possible the way he approaches improvisation : a conversation of musical ideas that eventually converge to make the band sound like a single cohesive voice. To achieve that he chose to record with a trio comprised of Rajiv Jayweera ( drums ) and Or Bareket ( bass ) with whom he has played regularly in many different settings for years. He also had the pleasure of inviting another one of his favorite musicians to join the trio as a guest for the record - French pianist Thomas Enhco. The group went in the studio and recorded the album in one day with the goal being to simply have fun and try to make the music as spontaneous as possible. The repertoire for the album includes several arrangements of some of classic American songs along with a song written by French composer Serge Gainsbourg " La Javanaise " and " Rabo de Nuve " by Cuban songwriter Silvio Rodriguez. Michael is also proud to debut two original compositions "Tea Time" and " Voice of Memory".
