I am eager to share with you the story of how my husband and I came to make the music that we do. My name is Rosa Hopkins. When I was seventeen, my family and I settled in the hills of Appalachia in a town called Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. After living there for about a decade, I moved further into the hills to a little town known as Ridgeley, also in West Virginia. When I became a Christian a few years ago, I began to listen to traditional Christian music of various genres. I absolutely fell in love with George Pegram and artists like Bill Monroe, Flat and Scruggs and the Stanley Brothers. I listened to the simple hymns from the late Victorian era as well. As my love of the simple and traditional church music grew, I began to sense a longing for new songs which carry on the tradition of those beautiful songs which the faithful have sung for so long. A call for the sounds of the crisp clear mandolin coupled with country guitar and a melody which seems instantly recognizable, and yet is not. A melody which can be sung along with, almost immediately, but is new to the ear and to the heart. It was this sort of music which we desired to write; this music, which is an authentic expression of Appalachia and of country gospel, played in the old styles. We believe that a new generation can experience this music which we hold so dear and that it can be kept from fading away. We believe that we must keep this tradition alive. We also believe that we can keep it vibrant as well as relevant. Our album features slide guitar, classical nylon stringed guitar, mandolin and piano. My husband Joe lends his vocal talent to the record as do I. This endeavor has been to craft a beautiful record which will appeal to those who are students of music, lovers of this country's musical heritage and those who love a simple melody to hum along to. The goal of our music is simple, really and that is this: to spread the love of Jesus to those who don't know Him and to tell of the good news of the gospel.
