Funky Food Tunes & Other Delights

This Flooky & the Bean(s) Funky Food Tunes song collection was originally released as a cassette tape back in the day and is now considered a collectors item by many of their current fans. This early studio production (now available on in digital format as Funky Food Tunes and Other Delights) planted the seeds for what would eventually become the live concert children's theater act known as Flooky & the Beans. (www.flooky.com) The Sandwich Song is the flagship track here with funkety old school hip hop grooves laid down sweet and fat under a goofball-in-the-wry story heralding the beauty of a typical lunchmeat sandwich. Sloppy Soup, Tortellini Song and The Meatloaf song are about as silly as you can get and can you guess which tune features the Cat Eye Detective Agency? Plus y'all get one smooth trip-hop bonus track, a storytime ballad of a musical Swordfish swimming the high seas, high-lighted by "sweet as pie" harmony sing-a-long vocals by a gruff group of sailors that will warm your funky lil' soul. "Yo Ho Ho Rim Ba Tally Bim Ba Tally Bim Ba Too! Yo Ho Ho Rim Ba Tally Bim Ba Tally Bim Ba Roo!" Featuring the lyrical talents of Rob Zammarchi, the musical programming wizardry of Brandon Roberts, and rounded out by the cool and groovy vocal stylings of Emily Zammarchi and Patti Barkas, this has got to be the most unique collection of food songs ever released! Well, 4 out of 5 that is, because the swordfish does not get eaten in the end! Yep, these tunes are hokey and jokey and even a little bit touching. While the lyrics are totally appropriate for 2 to 8 year olds, (we know because we have one of each!) the tape was originally made as a novelty recording for both kids and grown ups. Its dem hot doggin beats that really shine through under the silly story themes making this a great dance and yuck-em up record for the beach, living room or birthday party! It actually work both ways, if you want your kids to chill out and pay attention on those long car trips, just pop these tunes in and you'll have smooth sailing wherever you are headed. Oh, here is a nice testimonial from a number one fan: Hi Flooky! First of all, Dawn gave us the tape for Christmas. The cover is professional-looking and brightly colored. We played it right away that evening during dinner, mostly because it is something different. (We usually play music during dinner because it is enjoyed by our two year-old,Clayton - usually: Raffi, Barney, Classical, sometimes a local radio station.) I'll tell you that my wife, Barb, and I are really sick of Barney. Clayton is totally enthralled with this tape. He asks to play it often during the day. He refers to it as "food songs", or "fookie bean". We play it in the car. We play it in the family room. We play it in the kitchen. We sing it when he's in the tub. It has a catchy beat. He actually dances to it, and has some of the words memorized! (yes, he's only 24 months old!) On an adult level: Barb and I enjoy the references to cats (meat loaf), isn't that what good lyrics are about? -leaves your mind wandering a little? One of our favorite lines, from the "sandwich song" is ..."no lettuce, no bridge -not a very good sandwich..." Not really sure why, but the playing on words sticks in ones mind. We aren't even musicians. Good work! The tape needs more songs! Do you have any more? Sounds a lot like- They Might Be Giants. Any influence there? -Christopher Jacques Father of a Flooky Fan Club member Well, I hope you enjoy the music and check out other and future releases from one of the coolest and funniest kindie pop bands around, Flooky & the Beans!
