Donna McKevitt’s beautiful folk and classical score for award winning UK indie drama ‘The Fold’ has been released thanks to a hugely successful crowd funding campaign that saw demand for the album grow even before the film hit UK screens. The album garnered industry praise, with cellist Matthew Barely commenting, “my attention was caught from the first notes I heard of this powerful score – there is real magic here” Among the tracks on ʻThe Foldʼ (album) are McKevittʼs setting of traditional sea shanty The Farewell Shanty, a new choral setting of Psalm 129 Out of the Depths performed by Exultate Singers and the first ever recording of Polish-British vocalist Nina Bardette. Donna McKevitt is perhaps best known for her collaboration with Derek Jarman; McKevitt set Jarman's poetry from his film ‘Blue’ to music in her album ‘Translucence’. ‘The Fold’ is McKevitt’s feature film debut and the film’s director John Jencks describes McKevitt’s music as having something quite distinct from traditional scores: “in a lot of films, the music tells the audience what to feel… I think Donnaʼs music sings the characterʼs emotions.” ‘The Fold’, starring Catherine McCormack, Dakota Blue Richards, Jakub Gierszał and Owen Teale, is released in cinemas across the UK and on iTunes on 28th March 2014.
