Carla Kihlstedt - Though she came up in the classical canon, Kihlstedt is “…a musician fruitfully working in the margins of the known musical world” (Santa Barbara News-Press). She feels herself fortunate to have worked closely with some of her favorite artists including: Tom Waits, Satoko Fujii, Ben Goldberg, Carla Bozulich, the Rova Saxophone Quartet, and Fred Frith, whose new band Cosa Brava (including Zeena Parkins, and Matthias Bossi) has just finished a European tour. She most recently she has written a staged song cycle for 7 players called Necessary Monsters, and premiered Lisa Bielawa’s Double Violin Concerto together with violinist, Colin Jacobsen and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project.
