Recorded live on a sultry summer night at the famous nightclub, El Chapultepec Too in Denver, Colorado on June 21, 2008, the debut album from Denver-based jazz ensemble LOST SOUL – LIVE AT PEC TOO powers ahead with diverse, straight-ahead jazz styles, such as swinging standards, bebop, and blues, as well as modern Latin bossas, sambas, and finishing with deep and beloved ballads. The group formed from a friendship between Mike Evans (trumpet/vocals) and Kathryn Ballard Shut (piano/vocals), who were both former members of big band and combo ensembles within The Colorado Jazz Workshop. The two then asked members of The Amy Kay Combo to assist in the new effort, Mark Brostrom (bass) and Kevin MacInness (drums/percussion) and the quartet was born in late 2006. While the album is the debut effort for Lost Soul, it is the bittersweet swansong for master vocalist TIM BALLARD. Appearing on two diverse selections (“Dindi” and “In the Evening”) , the group is blessed and honored to have his voice grace the work, recorded just one year before Tim’s passing in 2009.
