We became the full quintet we are today in Fall 2016, after performing as a trio the year prior. The music is primarily written by Ryan (vocals, guitar, trumpet), but we like for everyone to have a part in the creative process and to write their own parts. Emma (vocals, bass) takes on the role of being the co-voice of the band with her silky-smooth singing and also keeps the groove in check with her funky, often improvised and driving bass parts. Jordan (drums) locks into that same groove with Emma and adds his unique touch of hard-hitting, rock drums to the sound, guaranteed to make you get up and dance yr face off. In our newer material, this trend continues but he plays the drums like an auxiliary percussion kit (although, you'll have to see us live to hear those songs). Marc (keys) plays everything from warm electric piano pads, beautifully outlining the chords, to Herbie Hancock style piano leads with a cornucopia of tones. Julia (sax, woodwinds) plays on a unique and antique saxophone, tuned to C, which is only made better by the fact that she can shred the hell out of it like no other, so it's very fitting that she usually takes on the role of the lead instrument. On our debut, she also sweetly plays flute, clarinet and bass clarinet, which add an orchestral element to the release, atypical to most modern indie music. Ryan (vocals, guitar, trumpet) finds lyrical inspiration from storytellers, like Bob Dylan or Courtney Barnett but conveys them like Bossa Nova-esque singers singers like Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab). His guitar playing is heavily inspired by Swedish finger-style guitarist Jose Gonzalez, who uniquely blends classical guitar with contemporary music. Our 8 song album debut, So Not a Sonata will be coming out February 15, 2017 on every music listening platform (Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp, Pandora, etc.), but before then, you can find us performing in the greater Nashville area.
