Co-producer Delaney Bramlett helps steer the sound toward Memphis and Muscle Shoals R&B and keeps the focus on the music, not the headliner. Not a bad idea, considering his enthusiasm barely overcomes his singing limitations. This is a solid and surprisingly varied outing that, until "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," gave him his signature tune in the powerhouse title track.
