Fabio Vanore, an artist with whom we had worked some years ago, asked us in 2019 if he could have the chance to remix one of his all-time favourite tracks from our catalogue: "Petroleum“ by Kris Davis. The original was released in the beginning of 2016 as a part of Livingroom Techno 6, our former winter compilation series. We knew at the time already how great the track is, but it has grown to be an absolute keeper for many, for example having been played by Flume at his secret Grammy Afterparty in 2020 and probably also having become the most important title in Kris' repertoire. It was December 2019 when Fabio sent us his remix and had apparently achieved what we had all been hoping for: Bringing the track from the after party to the main stage without losing the spirit of the original. A lush melodic banger. But then 2020 struck, turning the world upside down. Many artists had to realign and we too, had to figure out how to deal with this new situation. Long story short, it simply no longer felt appropriate to release a banging melodic techno track. We agreed to pigeonhole the project and then sort of forgot about it, to be honest. However, some weeks ago, Connaisseur label head Alex Flitsch stumbled across the remix again and was completely flabbergasted, asking himself how he had forgotten about this remix, as it still is a massive track, needing to see the light right now, the sooner the better.
