Smooth jazz takes on a host of contemporary soul tunes – a project that’s a bit like the Unwrapped series from Hidden Beach, but a bit more mellow overall! The songs are numbers you’ll recognize from hits by Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, J Holiday, Usher, and others – played here by a combo that features Kim Waters on saxes, Chris Davis on keyboards, and a few other smooth jazz all-stars as well. There’s some background vocals on most numbers, but they usually just echo the main chorus – leaving lots of space for the instrumentalists to present the tunes in a more jazz-based way.
