by Jason AnkenyUnlike the other early Baby Bird releases, the songs which comprise Fatherhood actually stake out some thematic unity -- in this case, of course, paternity. Sporting a rather disconcerting cover featuring a faux-pregnant Stephen Jones, Fatherhood is the strongest and most ambitious of the four initial collections of Baby Bird home recordings; from the Dylan-esque wordplay of "Bad Blood" to the psychedelia of "Aluminium Beach" to the surreal Franco-pop of the closer "May We," these are complex, mature songs which belie their primitive four-track origins.
