Jo&Co, a new album from Polish vocalist, pianist and composer Anna Maria Jopek, was released Oct. 17. The artist describes her latest offering as a "bold and at times radical concert album." Jo&Co is a collaboration between Jopek, her husband Marcin Kydryński, and the BMW Polska company. Most of the tracks were recorded during a recent BMW Jazz Club concert, African Moods, when Jopek was accompanied on stage by Cameroonian multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Richard Bona and Tunisian musician Dhafer Youssef. The album also features recordings made at the Ethno Jazz Festival in Wrocław and the Blue Note club in Poznań, where Jopek performed with Mino Ginelu, a vocalist and percussion virtuoso. Jo&Co is the first album to be released as part of the BMW Jazz Club project. Between Oct. 21 to Nov. 3, Jopek went on a European tour. The dates included Hamburg, Madrid, Vienna and Prague. The Polish leg of the tour will start Nov. 8 in Przemyśl and continue until Dec. 15, when a special BMW Jazz Club "In Polish" concert will take place, with guest performances by Urszula Dudziak, Grzegorz Turnau, and Stanisław Soyka. Jopek is a graduate of the Music Academy in Warsaw where she studied piano. She won scholarships from the Columbia University in New York City and the Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw, and attended jazz workshops in the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Jopek released her first album, Ale jestem, in 1997 and has since delivered more than 10 albums, including Jasnosłyszenie (1999), Upojenie (2002) and Niebo (2005), which in total have gone gold and platinum 15 times. In 2000, Jopek embarked on an international career, and her English-language albums Barefoot (2000) and Secret (2005) made her one of the best known Polish vocalists internationally. Jopek recorded the Upojenie album from 2002 with the famous American jazz guitarist Pat Metheny. Her other international collaborations include Nick Cave and Chris Botti, and she has also recorded with outstanding Polish singers such as Kayah, Irena Santor, and Grzegorz Turnau.
