American born, Australian singer/songwriter Anthony ‘Bones’ Bonito soulfully combines keyboard with blues harmonica and smoky vocals in his original folk compositions. Playing in rock, funk and blues bands in college gave Bones a solid musical foundation while a few years backpacking around the world gave him some inspiration. After moving to Australia, Bones lived in a small artistic community in the southern highlands of NSW where he acquired ‘Woody’ (a trusty electric piano). After brief but fruitful collaborations with Juicy Mountain and Swing Booty, and three years developing and hosting a weekly community music night, Bones let his influences of 70’s San Franciscan band The Grateful Dead, the performance style of New Orlean legend, Dr John and Australian multi-instrumentalist Xavier Rudd, along with the songwriting abilities of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Neil Young percolate into a dynamic and engaging one man band performance; artistically combining keyboard, drums, harmonica and vocals. So began a ten year odyssey of touring around Australia, composing anthems for small towns and collaborating with local musicians. Along with seasonal touring, Bones performed and held residencies in Exmouth and Fremantle (WA) as well as attending festivals. In 2009 Bones won WAMI’s regional “Next Best Thing” competition and celebrated by co-creating a son - Felix - who inspired more songs and travel between America and Australia. Bones uses his time in America to regroup: recording, playing in bands with old friends and tie dying. This summer sees Bones back in Oz for a cross country tour. He has stripped it back and returned to his singer songwriter roots playing a collection of his groovy, catchy, heartfelt, tunes on Woody, accompanied by rack harps and that sultry, southern drawl that the Aussies love. This tour will coincide with the release of this album which he recorded this year in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina.
