The Story of Sleep Special Media-Magazine Purchase on Apple Newsstand ChildGood presents The Story of Sleep Series, a groundbreaking, unique, original twenty-episode video series on how to master the art of family sleep issues. As any parent quickly learns the hard way, sleep becomes perhaps the most valued, sought-after and frustrating element of home life once children make a family complete. In fact, the severe lack of sleep that can occur with the family changes that accompany parenthood, have posed serious challenges to relationships, marriages and careers. It’s no joke. That’s why ChildGood invested so much into producing this series. And it’s designed not only to help little tykes sleep, but for you as well. A great deal of thought and collaboration went into the development of this project. A Sleep Scientist, a pediatrician, a family doctor, a child psychologist, a Sleep Lab technician as well as several seasoned parenting experts joined together under the special vision of ChildGood to make this dream a reality. Each of these collaborators share a holistic vision as to how sleep affects and empowers the health and well-being of your family – especially the creative independent family that is the ChildGood community. The Story of Sleep project includes: Sold on Apple Newsstand A 20-Episode Video Series featuring medical and parenting experts 20-Lesson Worksheets to help you understand and implement the concepts presented 5-Bonus ChildGood “Good Advice” Videos featuring child psychologist Dr. Chrissi Hart Sold Separately on CD BABY 2-Full Therapeutic “Evening Sleep” and “Day Time Nap” Albums featuring Grammy Award Nominated recording artists and Certified Music Practitioners. So many parents struggling to get “just one full night of sleep ... just one!” have searched the internet for free advice. “Surely,” they have reasoned, “there must be a free YouTube video out there that will reintroduce REMs back into my life!?” Of course, you may find one or two helpful hints online. But you’ll waste a lot time looking, and a lot of time Frankenstein-ing together a system that probably won’t work anyway. Sleep contraptions, white-noise machines, herbal teas – we’ve tried it all, but none of it is a lasting cure. You might as well turn to one of those Top Ten lists from a glossy Hollywood Parenting magazine. It’s fluff – and it just won’t work. That’s why we took a comprehensive, open-minded approach, brought in a range of experts, and invested so much into this project. As independent creatives, we know that music is far too important in life to ever resort to anything like cheap, cheesy goodnight lullabies or white noise in an effort to realize our dream of dreaming once again. We take music very seriously here at ChildGood. We’ve been creating high-quality family content for more than 25 years, including Lullabies of Latin America, which was acknowledged with a Latin Grammy Award nomination. Lullabies of Latin America was valued and appreciated internationally because of the care and quality put into the writing and making of it. The Story of Sleep series comes with two lovely albums produced by the same team of Therapeutic Music Professionals. Therapeutic Naptime and Therapeutic Evening will get the healthy evening ritual of rest started in an atmosphere of peace and calm. Another risk parents run by randomly surfing the web for a comprehensive family sleep plan is finding incomplete information or “urban myths.” One example of this is the unfortunate case of Dr. Richard Ferber’s “self-soothing” methodology, which has been reduced in popular culture to a harmful “cry it out” technique in which people think that children should simply be left alone in terror until they fall asleep. In fact, Dr. Ferber’s method is a much more wide-ranging and nuanced set of strategies that includes: A regular routine of getting your child ready to sleep. Allowing your child “alone time” to get used to his or her own room, in order to feel safe and secure there. Coming back to the child’s room during this alone time, at increasingly less frequent intervals over time, until she or he falls asleep. In addition, Dr. Ferber has endorsed the idea that all families are different, that his technique should be flexible for different situations, and that parents should not simply “abandon” their children for an entire night. Far too many children have suffered because of the urban myth that a “Doctor” who specializes in child development has recommended “abandoning” even infants at night time. All this does is make the family’s sleep problems worse! ChildGood’s The Story of Sleep set’s the record straight, and provides not only authoritative alternatives, but realistic techniques for a variety of different family situations. Some families are blessed with quiet, restful nights. Mom and dad slumber the night away, waking rested and alert, ready to take on the day ahead. The kids cheerfully trundled off the bed the night before without any fuss or argument, laughing along the way -- maybe they even tucked themselves in, after brushing their own teeth and tidying up their rooms. Then they quietly and serenely slept without nightmares or needing to go potty or even a glass of water until the sun came up and the birds began to chirp, waking with smiles on their cute little faces. Sadly, this scenario is about as rare as kids cooking you breakfast and giving you an allowance. For most families, making the transition into parenthood is one of the most difficult -- if not the most difficult passages in life. Making it even more stressful is the fact that it is also a beautiful, wonderful blessing, one hoped and prayed for. When the sleep deprivation begins, many almost feel guilty – because the lack of sleep sometimes causes confusion, even resentment. It is terribly, terribly frustrating. You love your children (and your partner) more than anything, but sleep deprivation frays the nerves like almost nothing else. There is a reason that the CIA uses it to interrogate. Sleep deprivation will negatively impact every aspect of life, and worse, if not addressed, it can actually create negative, unhealthy habits that continue to harm a family over the long run. Nobody wants that. Regaining your rest and beginning to develop better sleep routines and habits for your whole family is something that is important to your success right now, today. And the great news is -- it's totally within your reach! Like all good things, it just requires some focus and work. The ChildGood Story of Sleep video series allows you to review and return to the lessons that make the most sense for your family. Remember, this series isn't a "one size fits all" miracle cure. This is a comprehensive study of a variety of better sleep remedies presented for an assortment of family situations in a diversity of different contexts. You and your family can take your time learning about different ideas of the nature and science of sleep, and then be in charge of how you want to approach addressing your specific situation. Again, The Story of Sleep isn't our retelling one person's opinion, or the latest fad theory that will simply be replaced with another trend in a few years. This is a comprehensive overview, a meta-study, developed by scientists, family doctors, psychologists, pediatricians, sleep study techs and real parents to bring you the big picture. The Story of Sleep gives you and your family the opportunity to learn and incorporate deep changes into your lives and routines that can last for a lifetime. This series not only offers the opportunity to develop new habits and routines based on a new knowledge and understanding of family sleep dynamics, it will also help you to unravel and undo a lifetime of poor pre-sleep routines and habits. Among the many topic topics touched on are how a sleep study works -- many of us have had friends with sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea. Maybe you suffer yourself. What is behind the overnight "sleep study" used to diagnose and prescribe treatment? You will also hear from numerous parents as they discuss the sleep challenges in their own homes, and how they have tried to face them. What are parasomnias? Does it bite? What is a sleep onset association, have you created one for yourself and your child, if so, how many, and what does it all mean? Do different colors really impact the quality of sleep, or is that an urban myth? Remember, The Story of Sleep is twenty videos, so you can imagine how many more questions and issues are covered! The series looks at the topic from the traditional academic point of view and also alternative, naturopathic and holistic modalities -- we looked at and tested them all, and offer you the information as a package of comprehensive sleep solutions. Of course, while The Story of Sleep was developed with scientific and medical experts -- it is not intended to diagnose or treat any individual's specific medical condition, or to give any specific medical advice. The Story of Sleep is to inform and to present information so that parents can understand this critical issue, and so that they can make their own choices -- one of which would be to decide if you need to seek the advice of a medical doctor to treat an actual sleep disorder. Don't take any chances if you think for a moment that any actual medical condition is impacting your sleep! The Story of Sleep isn't just a twenty part video series designed to put you to sleep through boredom! It is entertaining, to the point, fast moving, and developed with families who share your lifestyle and concerns. Many, many families who are readers of ChildGood -- independent artisans, craftspeople, freelancers, architects, musicians, software developers, etc., (parents who lead unorthodox lives and truly need their sleep) have turned to this series and have told us that it is entertaining and fun. Part of what makes The Story of Sleep fun and entertaining is the music ... which everybody knows can calm. The Story of Sleep is imbued not only with warmth and information, but with beautiful music, created by Certified Music Practitioners and Grammy Award Nominated recording artists and composers. And, like ChildGood magazine and everything we offer, The Story of Sleep is a labor of love. MDR Publisher ChildGood
