Keats wrote the song in collaboration with Walden, who produced it at his famed Tarpan Studios in Marin County, California. With a background in musical theatre, Keats was forced into hiding for 20 years, after fleeing an abusive relationship that nearly cost her life. Following the death of her former abuser, Keats regained her self-confidence and decided to re-launch her musical career in the San Francisco Bay Area.
