Help Is on the Way
It kind of all started around 1970 or '71, in Southern California. Dee was in a band called, "The One Way," and Jim was in a band called, "The King James Version." Dee's band did mostly Jesus People music. Jim's band did mostly rock and roll covers. It was a crazy, wonderful time to be alive. Dee wrote songs, sometimes by herself and sometimes with other people. Jim wrote songs too. Sometimes by himself, but most of the time with other people. Something called, "The Jesus Movement," was happening and, for the most part, it was pretty awesome. Then they met each other, joined a group called Agape Force, became musicianaries and revivalists, and started writing songs with each other. They traveled lots of places and sang in churches, bars, school auditoriums, prisons, and just about every other kind of place else you might imagine. They began recording together in 1973 and are still playing, recording, and making music together. This album, "Help Is On the Way," has a long story behind it but suffice to say it was recorded by Sparrow records in 1976 and was never released. All that remained of the album was a rough mix on cassette. The album was never really finished. We have decided to go ahead and release it anyway, if for no other reason than it's historical value. When Billy Ray Hearn formed Sparrow records in 1975 he had Barry McGuire, The 2nd Chapter of Acts, (both well established), and his first new act was to be Jim & Dee. Due to circumstances which were never completely clear the album was set aside and never finished. Keith Green sang some backup harmonies on a couple of songs and in a couple of years launched his own career.
