Voyage

Miika Warsell aka Aural Night was born in 1975 in Helsinki, Finland. Early on he had keen interest and talent playing the piano, which he began at the age of six. Soon after he composed his first piece and more have come out sporadically ever since. When he was 8 he dressed up as Mozart at a school party and when other kids had posters of K.I.S.S. and W.A.S.P. on their bedroom walls, Miika diligently collected pictures of composers – Beethoven, Bach, Sibelius etc. much to the amusement of his ‘normal’ friends. He was so keen on composers that he even learned their birth and death years by heart. His favourite composer, the most talented musicmaker ever, is J.S. Bach. --- This album, Voyage, was recorded in 2006. It is composed, recorded, mixed, and mastered by one person - Aural Night. The CD describes the travels of a ship. Like all great tales, it has a tragic end. Below you can find brief introductions to each track which you can read while listening. The music features some heavy bass at times so it's best to listen with good set of stereos or headphones. U.S. distribution company Peacework Music Net (www.peaceworkmusic.net) has found considerable talent in this artist and has signed him non-exclusively with the album Voyage. Dawn at Sea This describes the start of the voyage with high hopes and a beautiful dawn at sea. 2. Storm Ahead Problems arise as a huge storm begins to rage in the ocean. 3. Threnody Part I Threnody, a song of lamentation, describes the feelings of the sailors to their lost mates in the storm before. 4. Threnody Part II A second part of the mourning song. 5. Relatively Calm The burial and mourning is over and the voyage continues in relatively calm conditions. 6. Tribal Musical Box The crew passes a distant tropical island and hears strange sounds from within. 7. Prosperous Winds The winds are prosperous again and the voyage continues with high hopes. 8. Something's Stirring There's something stirring deep underwater...something unsettling. 9. Land Ahoy Finally, a sight of a relatively peaceful looking island is ahead. 10. Threat from Below Something colossal and ominous rises from the depths, slowly engulfing and destroying the entire vessel as it sinks deep into the murky depths, ironically, just after sighting land. 11. Deep is the Grave The final tune describes the slow but inevitable sinking of the ship. -- NOTE: Album front cover art 'Ship in the Bottle' by Amy D. Dolphin. Reprinted with the author's permission.
