David the Black Star
Diamond Dogs is a Norwegian Bowie tribute band formed in 2006. David the Black Star, the only non-Bowie tune played by the band, was written by Bowie fan, interpreter and collector Lars André Tokheim two days after Bowie died January 10th 2016. An acoustic demo was posted on YouTube January 16th 2016. A band version of the song was played live for the first time by Diamond Dogs at Ælvespeilet, Porsgrunn, Norway, on January 14th 2017 as part of the event BOWIE70. After the show, Finn Bjelke, famous host of the Norwegian music radio show Herreavdelingen, said he really liked the song and wanted to play it on national radio. This prompted the band to record this studio version. Band members: Lars-André Tokheim: Vocals, acoustic guitar, stylophone Bjørn Glemmestad: Keyboards, tambourine Dan Riis: Lead guitar Steinar Krokmo: Bass Ole Jørn Johanssen: Drums
