Producer Will Holland — better known as Quantic — and singer Alice Russell clearly have a considerable amount of musical kinship. They're both British-born artists who became infatuated with various strains of classic American R&B, and they've come together in a number of contexts to perfect their own particular funky vision. Not only has Russell appeared as a guest vocalist on Quantic's solo albums, she has also participated in his Quantic Soul Orchestra project, assisting in the creation of a bold new force in funk. And now Russell and Quantic are entering into the most intensive collaboration of their careers thus far. On April 3, Tru Thoughts Recordings — through which both artists have each released their own albums —will unveil Look Around The Corner, a Quantic/Russell duo outing. While the record will contain the expected elements of soul, blues, etc., things will get even more interesting with the addition of a Latin influence. You see, Quantic makes his home in Cali, Colombia these days, where he works with his Combo Bárbaro, and they add a whole different flavor to the feel Quantic and Russell have already established together.
