Clare and I met in high school in a musical production that our high schools combined to produce. And we have been singing together ever since. I loved the thoughts and poetry of Bob Dylan and we both were heavily influenced by the music of Simon and Garfunkel; James Taylor; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the Beatles and Judy Collins, just to name a few. We have sung our songs throughout New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. We have shared the music the Lord has given us with all who would listen – in churches, concert halls, grade schools, high schools and colleges, coffee houses, hospitals, nursing homes, on television, radio and every place in between. "Mr. Dog" and Other Forgotten Classics is a collection of thoughtful songs - sometimes humorous, sometimes serious -which seem to appeal to young and old alike. These songs appeal to the "musical connoisseur" in all of us (sample of my humor). We have written these songs over the years. They've been inspired by friends we've met along the way - from a little boy who rode a big white horse and loved "Green M&M's" to a little girl with a big smile "that would pick you up when you're feeling down", to a Christian clown named Shomee who showed us his heart. Some of these songs were written for and inspired by our own children. We've written about Charlie Brown, hermit crabs, possums, dogs, bunk beds, cream of wheat, a snoopy dog, "ugly frowns", watermelons - all your standard subjects in song writing. A nice accompaniment to the music on the CD is a 32 page songbook. It contains lyrics and author's notes on each song and an excellent collection of pen and ink illustrations by some artist friends of ours.
