Devoid of clichés and easy commercial appeal (other than an occasional, dispensable -- in a Brazilian classic tune -- bluesy phrasing), she performs classics over an acoustic setting by Noel Rosa, Oscar Castro-Neves, Jair Amorim/Evaldo Gouvêa, Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo, Cartola, and Tom Jobim, along with pop tunes by Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, and others, forming an expressive and truthful landscape of Brazil in which "Isla Para Dos"'s Spanish lyrics act as a complement for Brazilian identity. Although she lacks the true samba do morro swing, she can perform quite authoritatively with her crystal-clear voice. She doesn't try to emulate the original arrangements; both her courage and the bands' arrangements deserve congratulations at that.
